"5G Wireless Connectivity for 2020 and Beyond".

5G is the next step in the evolution of mobile communication and a key component of the future networked society. Mobile broadband will continue to be important and will drive the need for higher system capacity and higher data rates. But 5G will also provide wireless connectivity for a wide range of new applications and use cases, including wearables, smart homes, traffic safety/control, and critical infra-structure and industry applications, as well as for very-high-speed media delivery. 5G must also be able to adapt to future applications with yet unknown characteristics and requirements. This talk will provide an overview of the current status of the development of the new 5G radio-access technology in terms of main requirements and capabilities, key technology components and standardization status within 3GP.

Erik Dahlman, Senior Expert in Radio Access Technologies, Ericsson Research

Erik Dahlman is Senior Expert in Radio Access Technologies within Ericsson Research. Erik was deeply involved in the development and standardization of 3G radio access technologies (WCDMA and HSPA), first in Japan and later within the global 3GPP standardization body. Later on he was involved in the standardization and development of the 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) and its continued evolution. His currently focuses on research and development of future 5G wireless access technologies. Erik is the co-author of the book 3G Evolution HSPA and LTE for Mobile Broadband and its follow-up 4G LTE and LTE-Advanced for mobile broadband. He has also participated in several other books within the area of wireless communication, as well as numerous journal papers and conference contributions. He is a frequent invited speaker at different international conferences and holds more than 100 patents within the area of mobile communication.
